Dr. Armida Fernandes

Dr. Armida Fernandez was Professor of Neonatology and retired as the Dean of LTMG Hospital Sion. She founded SNEHA in 1999 an NGO working on the health, nutrition and violence against women and children in the vulnerable sections of urban slums She was Medical Director of Holy Family
Hospital in Bandra. More recently she has started the Romila Palliative care centre for patients with life limiting disease and Connect and Care for Home bound senior citizens.
Dr. Fernandez work and research has been centred on survival of babies in the country with low cost resources. She started the first Human Milk Bank in the country in 1989. In 1991 and 1993 she Initiated the Infant Feeding Program in Mumbai and the Maharashtra Breast Promotion Initiative with UNICEF, the MCGM and the Government of Maharashtra where training of hospitals were conducted across the city and the state.
She has a large number of research papers and awards to her credit
